New Kid On The Block – Pout Salon

I was very honoured when I was invited by Pout Salon to try out their hair and makeup services last week. It could not have come at a more timely moment. My last hair cut was over 2 months ago. It looked shaggy and pretty unkempt, so much so that I had to keep it up in a ponytail most of the time. So off I went to this brand new hair salon located at Upper Thomson Road.

The session started with a a hair wash. It was not like any hair wash I have tried before. I was first led to the hair wash area. A row of bright orange seats greeted me. I climbed on it, and that was when I realised that it was also a massage chair. I received a very enjoyable scrub down on my hair and scalp together with a gentle back massage provided by the massage chair. To top it off, my hair wash ended with a mini head massage. Awesome!

I told the stylist, Kanris, that I wanted to retain my long hair. She analysed my hair and told me that all I needed was a little trim to neaten my unruly hair. It was the first time she was handling my hair and wanted to give me the confidence in her skills before attempting more daredevil hairstyles on me. I liked the fact that Kanris was confident and I felt that I could trust her. After 30 minutes, my hair was done.

Next, Joy, the makeup artist, started to work on my face. She wanted to give me a bridal look that could transform from day to night easily. From foundation to highlights to falsies, the entire process took slightly over an hour.

The final look was really pretty. Throughout the make up process, Joy explained to me each step that she was doing. This left me feeling safe in her hands. Joy also explained that in bridal makeup, the makeup needs to be slightly heavier than regular day makeup. Colours also need to be stronger. This will allow the bride to look balanced and not washed out under the bright photography lights.

Once my make up was done, Kanris started to work her magic again by styling my hair to give 2 different looks: a simple day look and an updo for the night. Here’s what the completed looks looked like!

The styles were gorgeous, but I was quite sure I would not be replicate it on my own. I was even worried that I would not be able to achieve the same flowy, layered look that Kanris created, after I washed my hair. Guess what? I did wash my hair and did my own blow drying for a recent wedding that I attended. It turned out perfect and I was actually pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to recreate the layered look.

Pop by the hair salon if you are free, and tell the lady boss you heard about Pout from Little Wedding Diary!
