Wedding montages have been the mainstay of many wedding parties that I have attended. It chronicles the story of the bride, the groom, how they met and how their love blossomed.
While conventional wedding montages are sweet and romantic, wedding couples are always on the look-out for more new and novel ways of expressing their love story. Some of these alternatives? A cartoon animation, a 3D montage or even a mini film of their love story!
Julian and Patsy, a pair of newly weds, opted for a cartoon animation video for their wedding dinner montage. They took 1 month to source around before deciding on a company to help them with their project.
In a cartoon animation, little characters are created. It can be caricatures, or simply characters that represent the wedding couple. These are then animated into a video clip.
Creating cartoon animation wedding montages is not as simple as it looks. We learned from Daniel Kuan of Wow Media that once the wedding couple engages their services, a meeting will be set up to discuss the storyline. A pencil sketch storyboard will be created for the wedding couple to view and feedback. Changes are made and the final storyboard has to be approved by the client before any production commences.
“It takes about 2 months from the story line discussion to the delivery of the final product. And if the wedding falls between September to December, we encourage them to make their bookings early” says Daniel.
Another interesting proposition is a 3D montage. “Why not make something great to watch and still base it on photos? We decided to bring “life” to photos enabling them to interact with one another.” Kevin of Lighthouse Studio tells us. Rather than a traditional photo montage with the all-too-familiar transitions, 3D montages takes photos and gives it a twist by animating them and having them flow into one another in a rather interesting fashion.
And for the uninhibited, couples can to try their hand at a short film about their love story. The story of how the couple met, dated and the proposal is created by the film company. The wedding couple and perhaps a few close friends come together, and act out the scenes. All these are captured on film by the videographer. The company edits and puts together this mini film, all in time for your big day.
How much will these options set you back by?
Conventional wedding montages will cost in the region of $400, while cartoon animation and 3D montages start from $980 and $950 respectively. Filming of love story requires not only story boarding, but also a filming crew to put them all together. This starts from $3800.
And remember, set aside 2-3 months for the preparation of your montages. If you opt for the filming of your love story, cater at least 4-5 months for its production.
