Set a budget
Like everything else, prices of wedding bands can vary wildly. By deciding how much you intend to spend on your wedding bands, it can help you streamline your choices.

If you have no idea on the prices of wedding bands in your area, spend a little time, shop around at various jewelry shops to get a feel of the designs available and their prices.

Consider both your personalities
The design represents the union of husband and wife and the design should reflect your personalities and tastes. Do you prefer something simple, or do you prefer a more intricate design? This is a joint effort and it is essential that both husband and wife must agree. After all, you will be wearing them for a lifetime.

Choose the material
Wedding bands can be made from a variety of materials including white gold, yellow gold, silver and platinum.

Platinum is considered the most precious of the four and consequently is most the expensive. Platinum is a lovely material to use not only because it is heavier than gold, but also because of the shine it gives off after it has been polished.

Gold is available in white and yellow gold. Being a precious metal, it also makes beautiful wedding bands and shine when polished. A good choice for those who wish to have an alternative color other than white.

Silver on the other hand tends to be soft and prone to scratches and discoloration. Silver is also a cheaper option and can be considered by those on a tight budget.

Select the thickness of your wedding band
The size of your hands affects your decision on the thickness of the wedding bands. If you have larger hands, thicker bands will look better than thin ones. Conversely, if you are of a smaller built, then a thinner band would probably suit you better

Decide on your engraving
Decide if you want to have any engraving at all. And if you do, keep in mind that you will need to be careful in selecting what you would want engraved as these will be etched in there for a lifetime.

Most couples will opt to have their initials engraved. Some will have their spouse’s name together with their wedding date. Perhaps there is a symbol that is very meaningful to the couple. You can have that engraved too. Whatever you choose remember that engravings are a wonderful thing, because they make the rings more meaningful and special.

As you both prowl the various jewelry shops, you should also enjoy and relish this special bonding time.
