For the uninitiated, here’s what you need to do to file for your wedding solemnization.

  1. Prepare for the filing of Notice of Marriage
  2. File a Notice of Marriage online
  3. Proceed to the Registry of Marriages (ROM) to verify documents and for statutory declaration on the appointed date
  4. Proceed to solemnize your marriage on the appointed date, together with a licensed solemnizer and 2 witnesses above 21 years old

Prepare for the filing of Notice of Marriage
If you are below 21 years old,  you will require the consent of your parents before filing a notice of marriage.

If you are below 18 years old,  you will need parental consent. You will also need to apply for a Special Marriage License (SML). As part of the application, both will be required to undergo a social assessment by MCYS on the suitability for marriage, which will take 2-3 months to complete. After the SML has been approved, you may then file your notice of marriage.

File a Notice of Marriage online
Filing a Notice of Marriage can only be done between 21 days and 3 months prior to your solemnization date. If you are solemnizing your marriage on a weekend or public holiday, make arrangements for the soleminzation to be carried out outside ROM.

Before you file your Notice of Marriage online, you should have already worked out your solemnization date. Ensure that you also have the following items on hand:

  • NRICs or passports of the groom, bride and 2 witnesses above 21 years old
  • Credit card for payment
  • Signed consent form by the solemnizer, if you intend to have your solemnization out of ROM
  • Printer to print your receipt and filing instructions

Once you have these items ready, you can file your Notice of Marriage here. Fees for Singaporeans are $26.00.

Proceed to ROM to verify documents and for statutory declaration
On the appointed date, proceed to ROM to verify documents and for statutory declaration. Both your spouse-to-be and yourself must be present. If you are a minor, you would also need to bring your parents along for their consent.

More information can be found on your filing instructions form that you would have printed out during the filing of Notice of Marriage.

Proceed to solemnize your marriage on the appointed date
You may solemnize your marriage at the ROM or outside the ROM where there are no restrictions. If you have opted to solemnize your marriage at the ROM, then there would be a few things that you need to take note of on the wedding solemnization day:

  • Bring along your NRICs or passports
  • Be properly attired. The ceremony is a dignified one. You should not be turning up in tank tops, bermudas or slippers. Your solemnizer will refuse to conduct the ceremony if one of the bridal party or witnesses is improperly attired
  • Up to 20 guests may be invited to witness the ceremony
