Choosing a Wedding Venue

Your wedding date has been chosen, your wedding budget is set and your wedding theme has been decided on. Now is the time to select the perfect wedding venue.

Here are 6 top tips to help you choose the wedding venue of your dreams:

Choosing a Wedding Venue - Little Wedding Diary

Tip #1
Trust your instincts. It is akin to meeting a person for the first time. As soon as you arrive at the venue you will automatically have positive or negative vibes towards it. If it feels good, then you should shortlist the venue as one of your choices. If it doesn’t, dump it. We are not saying that you should be irrational about the venue selection. But this is afterall the place where you will be exchanging vows and the how you feel when you first step into the location is an important consideration.

Tip #2
Consider the venue size in relation to your guest list. Too large a venue, and the wedding will lose its intimacy. Too small a place, and it could end up leaving your guests feeling crampped. So before confirming your wedding venue, make sure you have a pretty good idea of the number of guests you would be expecting. Be as precise as possible. Planning to invite 200-400 guests will not help you much in selecting a suitable venue size, as a 200 person difference is a huge difference.

Tip #3
Have an idea of the layout of your wedding. Having a mental picture of where you want your guests to be seated, where the reception and dining area will be, where the dance floor will be located, will help you greatly in deciding if the layout of the wedding venue can accomodate the ideas you have in mind.

Tip #4
Check on the restrictions imposed by the wedding venue. Perhaps there may be restrictions as to how late the band play. Or maybe the venue is not able to accomodate certain decor. Some venues even impose that you would need to use their contracted vendors. So be sure to check and list all these out before you make your decision.

Tip #5
Check the parking space. No matter how minor this may seem, it is easily one of the most frustrating things for your guests. Imagine arriving at your wedding, only to find that there is a lack of parking space and the nearest one is a 15-minute walk away.

Tip #6
Do not rush into a decision. Do not ever be pressured into making a decision. Start early. This will give you ample time to visit more locations, ask more questions and select the wedding venue that best suits your requirements. Remember once you have decided, you will most likely need to place a deposit for the venue rental, so don’t rush into a decision that you think you may regret!
